There have been a number of offshoots that have been inspired by contemporary design as it has gained greater popularity. These hybrid design styles use modern design as their point of departure and then branch out in new areas. They combine the clean lines of the modern design style with aspects that are unexpected, such as beachy linens and gigantic mirrors respectively.
Coastal contemporary architecture provided us with beach bungalows that were unexpectedly stylish. The modern Victorian trend provided us with layered interiors that are suitable for the contemporary queen, while the desert modern style demonstrated that clean-lined furniture looks fantastic when combined with patterned fabrics and towering cactus. The most recent version of modern design, known as organic modern style, has, much like its predecessors, given modernism a new twist by giving it a warm, earthy, and unexpectedly homey feel. This is because the traditionally streamlined style has been given a fresh spin.
1.Set the Scene With Pretty Neutrals
Because organic contemporary design is earthy and minimalist, you should establish the scene with a palette that is mostly neutral. Incorporate earthy browns, creamy whites, and gentle grays into your interior design, and don't be hesitant to experiment with different color combinations.
"The colorway is neutral, but it still allows you to use really saturated tones," said Annie and Jordan Obermann, the lead designers of Forge & Bow Dwellings. "The colorway is neutral."
2. Layer Earthy Textures
There is a vast assortment of natural materials available, and any and all of them seem quite at home in an organic and contemporary setting. "Add fuzzy or natural rugs, select woven chairs, and choose raw wooden bowls for kitchen and décor," says Denise Rives, lead designer of Rive Interiors. "These are some of the accessories that you should consider adding."
3. Put Greenery Everywhere
As a result of the fact that plants are an essential component of organic contemporary design, you should stock up on greenery and place it everywhere.
According to the Obermanns, anything that does not include natural elements into its design is not considered organic contemporary. The use of plants and other organic accents is something that Curtis suggests incorporating into your home.
4. Play With Soft, Organic Shapes
Organic modern design is filled with curves and arches. Why? The shapes nod to modernism’s sleek lines, while mimicking some of the softer edges found in nature. Curtis recommends stocking up on “earthy, organic sculptures and pieces," so keep an eye out for curved couches, round armchairs, and other sculptural finds.
5. Keep Clutter to a Minimum
At its core, organic modern design is still modern design, so stay away from clutter and excessive decoration.
“Organic modern design is all about living clutter-free, without the sterile coldness you can get in a strictly modern space,” Rives says. “All organic elements should be subtle and not overwhelming. Add just the right amount of décor to soften and surprise modern design, but not clutter it.”
6. Line Your Walls and Ceilings With Wood
Wood is one of the most popular natural materials around, which makes an easy addition to any organic modern décor scheme.
“If we want a space to feel warm, we almost always have wood in the design,” the Obermanns say. “If hardwood floors are not compatible with the use of the space, we will bring wood in through millwork, wall treatments, or lighting.” Remember, you can always fill your space with wood furniture, too.
